Sakarya University carries out a comprehensive waste management and recycling program in line with national environmental regulations and its institutional sustainability goals. All practices conducted under the university's zero waste policy are coordinated by the Zero Waste Coordination Office, in collaboration with relevant administrative units. The program aims to ensure the efficient separation, collection, and recycling of waste throughout the campus.
Recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, glass, metal, and electronic waste are collected using color-coded bins located across the campus and are delivered to licensed recycling companies in compliance with environmental standards. Additionally, biodegradable waste generated in dining halls is processed using environmentally responsible methods, particularly composting, aligning with the university’s goal of contributing to a circular economy model.
Hazardous and medical waste produced in laboratories and healthcare units is collected and disposed of in accordance with specific legal procedures. The program also includes regular awareness-raising activities—such as seminars, digital content, and printed materials—targeting students, academic staff, and administrative personnel.
Sakarya University’s recycling program plays a vital role within the broader framework of its “Zero Waste” initiatives, supporting the development of environmental awareness across the campus community.
