Water Efficient Appliances Usage

Sakarya University has implemented a comprehensive water-efficient appliances program as part of its commitment to sustainable water management and environmental stewardship. This initiative focuses on reducing water consumption across campus facilities through the integration of advanced water-saving technologies and infrastructure.

The university has equipped all new buildings with water-efficient devices, including spray filters, automatic urinal controls, waterless urinals, low-flush toilets, and automatic taps. In existing buildings, retrofitting efforts have ensured that over 60% of water-using fixtures incorporate water-saving features. These measures significantly contribute to the reduction of water usage and promote efficient resource utilization.

To further minimize water use, Sakarya University has implemented efficient irrigation systems and landscape designs. Rainwater and spring water, naturally replenished within campus borders, are stored in nine separate tanks and used to irrigate green spaces via automated underground channels. Pine and cedar trees, which require minimal maintenance and water, are integrated into the campus landscape. Mains water is not used for irrigation, thereby conserving treated municipal water.

The university actively promotes conscious water usage on campus through various initiatives. Educational programs include courses on effective water management, accessible to all students, along with public seminars aimed at raising awareness about water conservation. Additionally, visual reminders are strategically placed in high-usage areas across campus to encourage mindful water consumption among students, staff, and visitors.

Through these combined efforts, Sakarya University fosters a culture of water conservation within its community, aligning with its broader sustainability goals and demonstrating leadership in environmental responsibility.
