Sakarya University manages hazardous waste in accordance with the legal regulations set by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Considering the risks hazardous waste poses to environmental and human health, the university adopts a systematic approach to its segregation, storage, and disposal.
Hazardous waste generated in laboratories and administrative units is securely stored in designated temporary storage areas, properly labeled with waste codes and hazard symbols. Upon delivery to the storage facility, a Waste Delivery Form is issued, which serves as a critical document for tracking and managing the waste. In line with the Waste Management Regulation, these wastes are periodically transferred to the licensed disposal facility İZAYDAŞ, where they are both neutralized and utilized for energy recovery.
Medical waste primarily originates from the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Medico Health Center. These wastes are collected in dedicated medical waste containers in compliance with the Regulation on the Control of Medical Waste and are delivered to the licensed sterilization facility ERA Environmental Technologies for safe disposal.
Additionally, waste batteries collected throughout the campus are delivered to the Association of Portable Battery Manufacturers and Importers (TAP) for recycling. All of these procedures are carried out meticulously to support environmental sustainability.
